The well-known instant messaging service WhatsApp will soon acquire a new Snapchat-like function that lets users share quick videos to their friends, family, and coworkers.

The new feature is presently being tested by WhatsApp engineers on the beta version of the app, according to a report from WABetainfo. The capability to record and transmit video messages is now accessible on the beta version of the app, but it is anticipated that all users will have access to it in the upcoming weeks.

The new function requires users to press on the microphone button that is located on the right side of the text input field, much as how you submit voice notes in the app. The microphone button will change to a video button if you are using the beta version of the app, and hitting it will allow you to record a video message that can last up to 60 seconds.

If you want to share anything with your friends without leaving the app and taking a video using the phone’s camera app, the capability may be useful. Videos sent utilising the new functionality will be end-to-end encrypted, much like text and voice messages. Additionally, sending video messages to other users is not yet feasible. However, since WhatsApp does not classify video messages as vanishing messages, they may still be preserved using screen recording software.
